Chris Brown: Thanks For The Legislative Help
Many of you came to Cheyenne and personally spoke with your Representatives and Senators, and for that your association thanks you. The legislative wrangling over the budget cuts each state agency took could have been much worse for the Wyoming Office of Tourism, our main focus.
As it was, the House micromanaged a small part of the WOT budget dealing with the Cowboy Marketing Program, but other than that legislators understood, thanks in large part to you, that our state tourism program returns much more money to the state than it costs.
In the time between now and the next legislative session, I would ask you to speak at every opportunity with your local legislators and keep impressing on them the importance of travel and tourism in Wyoming on their local economy. Many Wyoming businesses survive through the winter months on what they make from tourism in the summer months.
Also aiming for the next legislative session, your association will begin to focus on relevant issues that will be studied on during this interim period. Sustainable funding for the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. and protecting funding for the Wyoming Office of Tourism budget will be the focus. As the issues unfold this spring and summer the Wyoming Travel Industry Coalition will keep all members currrent through our monthly newsletter.
Thanks again, and please don’t hesitate to call or email with any suggestions in this area or any other.
