Industry Services Program Makes Improvements to Existing Programs
Improvements are being made to the existing Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) program intended to help enhance and support tourism marketing efforts at the local level.
Changes to the Certified Tourism Community program will help support tourism marketing and development efforts in rural communities throughout Wyoming. Participants that are committed to pursuing certification will now benefit from dedicated amount of “technical assistance” monies for each certification level. This benefit structure is consistent with the Main Street Program allocation of benefits, and allows communities to leverage their money for projects that are most beneficial to them. In addition to continued education opportunities, monies could also be used for planning projects or as match funds for larger grant programs related to tourism development.
In 2010, the Wyoming Office of Tourism completed a Tourism Master Plan, with the purpose of presenting a comprehensive view of Wyoming’s collective tourism needs over the next ten years. The key driver in the master plan is to maintain/increase expenditures, employment and tax revenues related to Wyoming tourism. Although the work and dedication to this project isn’t new, WOT is working to improve its communication with the industry on progress with up-to-date information on the industry site. Industry partners are encouraged to communicate with WOT throughout this process, and continue to keep the office updated on all the progress at the local level.
Finally, Industry Services has created a Wyoming Tourism Basecamp page on Facebook specifically for industry-related news. Updates include WOT program updates, grant deadlines, education opportunities, state and federal agency partner updates, summer and winter campaign information, legislative updates and master plan updates.
