Winter Use for Yellowstone 2012-13
Snowmobiling will continue as usual this winter for Yellowstone National Park with a continuation of last year’s one-year rule for this winter season.
This rule permits 318 commercially guided snowmobiles and up to 78 commercially guided snowcoaches per day in Yellowstone. These motorized over snow vehicles will be required to meet current “best available technology” standards for the park.
“It’s important that people remember, and reinforce, that we are open as usual this winter. Regardless of the ongoing winter use process, Yellowstone remains an incredible winter vacation experience!” said Rick Hoeninghausen, Director of Sales and Marketing for Xanterra Parks & Resorts, the park’s lodging concessioner.
Winter opening dates are weather permitting. On Dec. 15, 2012, most roads open to snowcoach and snowmobile travel. On Dec. 22, 2012, the East Entrance Road (between the East Entrance and Fishing Bridge) opens to snowcoach and snowmobile travel.
Xanterra Parks & Resorts facilities, Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins, will open their doors in mid-December with the season ending in early March.
