Sheridan’s Penny Becker Steps Down
(The Sheridan Press)— The face of Sheridan Travel and Tourism for more than a decade has stepped down from her post.
Penny Becker, STT executive director for 13 years, made news of her retirement official this week after having announced the decision to her board of directors in October. Becker served on the WTIC board of directors and has been active in statewide tourism efforts as well.
The development came just hours after the city’s 4 percent lodging tax — a key source of funding for tourism efforts in Sheridan — was renewed by an overwhelming majority of voters.
“It just started to feel very right that I started looking at new ideas,” Becker said in an interview with The Sheridan Press. “It’s not been an easy decision because I’ve always enjoyed what I do.
“I love marketing the city of Sheridan. I love the people I work with and all the people whose warm Western hospitality makes Sheridan shine like it does.”
After so many years at the head of the organization charged with showcasing Sheridan to the world, Becker said she was extremely proud of everything STT has been able to accomplish recently.
Becker unexpectedly found herself in Sheridan in 1999 after a 14-year stint as the executive director of the Minnesota Inventors Congress.
